Madeleine List's Jan. 8 news story ("Women of the cloth") was a fine, informative article on the growth of women clergy, in Rhode Island and nationally. But I think there is more to the story. The number in Rhode Island is considerably higher. Immediately coming to mind are Rachel Zerin, associate rabbi at Temple Emanu El, and cantor Judith Seplowin at Beth El, plus Rebecca Spencer, senior minister, and Claudia Demick , associate, at Central Congregational, all in Providence.
By contacting the Board of Rabbis, the Rhode Island State Council of Churches and the denominations represented in the state, you could compile a comprehensive and current list of all women clergy. Would this not be a great foundation for a follow-up story?
