I am writing to disagree with Mike Szostak's Nov. 5 letter claiming that the Red Sox weren't over-achievers in capturing the 2018 World Series ("Sox weren't overachievers; had the biggest payroll").
The Red Sox faced medical challenges throughout the year, including Dustin Pedroia for most of the season, and Chris Sale, David Price and Edwardo Nunez. Rick Porcello, though a former Cy Young winner, underperformed for most of the year. Given these circumstances, the Red Sox were led brilliantly by first-year manager Alex Cora.
These Red Sox worked hard overcoming many obstacles to forge a new “Impossible Dream.”
