PROVIDENCE -- WPRI is reporting that two executives at the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority have been placed on administrative leave and a performance audit of the authority has been ordered by a joint committee of the General Assembly.

The executives placed on leave are former Rhode Island State Police Captain James Demers, director of security at the Convention Center, and Assistant General Manager Amanda Marzullo Wilmouth, according to WPRI. Demers is described in the report as a friend and political supporter of House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello.

The Convention Center Authority is a quasi-public agency that owns both the Convention Center and the Dunk, the report notes.

The report says that Auditor General Dennis Hoyle, is conducting the audit. The audit will include “the various administrative functions of the Convention Center Authority including purchasing, finance and personnel," WPRI reported, quoting a letter it obtained from Hoyle to the Convention Center.

The audit was ordered by the Joint Committee on Legislative Services, according to the letter. WPRI notes that the committee administers the General Assembly's $46 million annual budget and is controlled by the speaker.
