PROVIDENCE — Motor vehicle traffic was diverted into the bicycle lane on Fountain Street Saturday morning as a crew dismantled the crane the was used to build the Residence Inn by Marriott between Fountain and Sabin Streets.

The 240-foot crane was assembled at the site on June 16. It was used to lift both structural steel into place to form the skeleton of the hotel and masonry panels that form the brick exterior of the building.

The 176-room, nine-story hotel on the parcel where the Fogarty Building used to be is expected to open late this year. It would become the second extended-stay hotel in downtown, joining a Homewood Suites by Hilton, expected to open this month between Burnside Park and the Woonasquatucket River.
