NEWPORT – The Newport Maritime Alliance presented Newport harbormaster Tim Mills with the gift of a Stryker defibrillator, for use on the rescue vessel, during a ceremony on June 7 at the Ann Street Pier Maritime Center.

The defibrillator purchase was funded by the Newport Shipyard, Latitude Yacht Brokerage, Oldport Marine Services, Hank Kniskern and Ann Souder.

“This donation represents one of our stated goals of support for Newport Harbor and on behalf of the NMA Board and our members, we are delighted to provide aid to the Newport Harbormaster Department,” said Sounder, the president of the NMA.

“The addition of an AED will greatly enhance our ability to respond to an emergency heart attack victim in Newport harbor and cut down on the time it would normally take to get a patient to treatment and will save lives in the process,” Mills said.

NMA was formed with the goal of supporting and encouraging maritime non-profits and businesses, promoting Newport as a host for ocean events, preserving the harbor, and supporting sound, long-term management. For information about the organization, contact Sounder, anncsounder@aol.com.
